John Morton of OPIC on Multi-Agency Solutions

Feb. 19, 2016—John Morton, Chief Operating Officer of OPIC, describes how the intractable problems at the intersection of power and agriculture require more than a simple one-agency solution, and how the partners of the Powering Agriculture: An Energy Grand Challenge for Development (PAEGC) are bringing their best minds together in an effort to solve these problems and create the opportunity for seismic change.

About Powering Agriculture

Powering Agriculture: An Energy Grand Challenge for Development supports the development and deployment of clean energy innovations that increase agriculture productivity and stimulate low carbon economic growth in the agriculture sector of developing countries to help end extreme poverty and extreme hunger.

OPIC is the U.S. Government’s development finance institution. It mobilizes private capital to help solve critical development challenges and in doing so, advances U.S. foreign policy. Because OPIC works with the U.S. private sector, it helps U.S. businesses gain footholds in emerging markets, catalyzing revenues, jobs and growth opportunities both at home and abroad. OPIC achieves its mission by providing investors with financing, guarantees, political risk insurance and support for private equity investment funds.

OPIC’s support for PAEGC is coordinated by OPIC’s Agriculture and Project Finance unit.
