Sebastian Weber of African Bamboo on Winning a 2013 Powering Agriculture Award

June 26, 2014—More than 475 organizations from 80 countries applied to Powering Agriculture’s first global call for innovations, which offered market-based, clean energy innovations for the agricultural sphere in developing countries. Each of the 11 winning organizations received awards of between $800,000 and $1.5 million to support great ideas from around the globe and offer farmers the solutions they need today and tomorrow.

Sebastian Weber of African Bamboo discusses his organizaton’s environmentally friendly bamboo thermal modification process called ThermoBoo allowing Ethiopia’s plentiful and renewable bamboo resources to be processed and marketed to a range of domestic and international buyers. Through the project’s successful implementation of a pilot processing facility, African Bamboo envisions developing a replicable model that can lead to business opportunities throughout the region.
