Shell Technology Ventures has led a $20 million funding round for Powering Agriculture innovator Husk Power Systems, a rural distributed utility company operating minigrids in Asia and Africa. It is believed to be the largest cash injection so far for a minigrid developer.
New funding means Husk Power Systems can build over 300 mini-grids in India and Tanzania, serving over 100,000 customers. These grids will keep over 150,000 tons of CO² per year out of the atmosphere.
With backing from multiple strategic investors, Husk CEO Manoj Sinha feels confident that they will achieve the company's long-term vision of becoming the world’s largest rural utility company, providing 24/7, 100 percent renewable and affordable power to customers.
