PAEGC visited seven installations in Kenya that use SunDanzer’s solar-powered chest refrigerator as a reliable way to cool milk and reduce milk spoilage. This has already led to a 20 percent increase in production, resulting in additional income for farmers.

The 2015 Ag Innovation Showcase was held in St. Louis, Missouri, on Sep. 14–16. The PAEGC Innovators were represented by Mr. Brian Jensen of SunDanzer and Dr. Vijay Modi of the Earth Institute at Columbia University who each gave presentations on their innovations.

In 2013, SunDanzer received a grant to develop a refrigerator for dairy farmers in Kenya to store milk. The company modified its vaccine-storage refrigerators so an aluminum milk container fits inside. About 40 of the milk-storage refrigerators have been deployed and about 100 more are planned.

SunDanzer is running field testing of their small-scale, clean energy portable cooling system at Egerton University in Kenya in order to collect technical data and refine the product for local conditions.
