Philipp Ackermann on Market-Based Renewable Energy Ideas

Feb. 19, 2016—Dr. Philipp Ackermann, Minister & Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, speaks on the promotion of renewable energy through partnerships like Powering Agriculture: An Energy Grand Challenge for Development (PAEGC), allowing entrepreneurs to develop market-based solutions tailor-made for their communities.

About Powering Agriculture

Powering Agriculture: An Energy Grand Challenge for Development supports the development and deployment of clean energy innovations that increase agriculture productivity and stimulate low carbon economic growth in the agriculture sector of developing countries to help end extreme poverty and extreme hunger.

The BMZ develops the guidelines and the fundamental concepts on which German development policy is based. It devises long-term strategies for cooperation with the various players concerned and defines the rules for implementing that cooperation. These are the foundations for developing shared projects with partner countries and international development organisations. All efforts are informed by the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals.

Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) supports BMZ in implementing the German contribution to the Powering Agriculture Energy Grand Challenge.

German support for PAEGC is coordinated by BMZ’s Special Initiative “One World – No Hunger.”
